WHO WE ARE
Specialized in Technology Companies with Variant-Rich Products.
Dr. Wüpping Consulting was founded in 1997 with the ambition not only to design technically demanding transformation initiatives, but also to implement them successfully together with the responsible teams. Starting in machinery and plant engineering, we have extended our methods over the years to other sectors with variant-rich products: electrical and automation engineering, the supplier industry and vehicle manufacturing, as well as medical and pharmaceutical technology.
We work in small, experienced senior teams, technically led and personally accountable through Dr. Wüpping. For specific tasks, we selectively complement the team with proven experts from industry and consulting. For our clients, this means seniority, continuity and direct accountability.
Our strength lies at the interfaces between product, process, data and core IT systems. We are familiar with PLM and SAP environments, but deliberately do not position ourselves as a pure PLM or SAP consultancy. Our focus is on end-to-end consistency: designing product structures, rules, master data and processes so that business functions, responsibilities and core systems work together.

Projects Involve Implementation Support
We go beyond concepts.
OUR APPROACH
Independent. Technically Deep. Implementation-Focused.
Independent
No software commissions, no sales agenda and no ties to individual vendors. What matters is the functional and architectural fit.
Technical Depth
We integrate product architecture, variant logic, pricing, data models, bills of materials and system roles into a robust overall picture.
Implementation-Focused
Target architectures are validated early using real products, use cases and pilot data models. This ensures that assumptions and system boundaries are robust.
Tools are important, but they come after the functional logic. A compelling user interface is no substitute for a robust product model.
CONSULTING APPROACH
Make Structured Decisions and Implement Complex Initiatives.
We combine deep functional expertise in products, processes, data and core systems with a form of collaboration tailored to the task at hand—from transformation initiatives and expert support to independent strategic sparring.
A Robust Target Architecture Before the System Decision.
Complex initiatives rarely fail because of a lack of individual ideas. More often, what is missing is a shared understanding of the problem, clear boundaries and a robust target architecture across functions and systems.
Technology decisions must follow the target architecture for product, process and data—not the other way around.
5
Perspectives
One Common Target Architecture.
PRODUCT · PROCESS · DATA · SYSTEMS · ORGANIZATION
These perspectives are not addressed one after another. They are considered together and translated into a target architecture that is functionally robust and technically feasible.

5 Perspectives. One Common Target Architecture.
We also overlay the five perspectives with the lifecycle dimension: Market & Portfolio, Engineering & Release, Sales & Order, as well as Operations, Service and the next product generation. This reveals where decisions have lasting effects and which data, rules, responsibilities and system states must remain synchronized.
Our Approach
01
Understand and Focus
Analyze the product, process, data and system landscape. Distinguish symptoms from root causes and define scope and edge cases.
Result: a robust picture of the current state.
02
Develop the Target Architecture and Concept
Integrate product logic, Process Classes, the data model, system roles and responsibilities into a viable target architecture.
Result: a documented concept that guides decisions and implementation.
03
Validate and Implement
Using real use cases and pilot data models, we validate product logic, data models, pricing, output objects and system boundaries early on using specific products. Only then do system selection, implementation, integration and scaling follow.
Implementation Proof: In four out of five projects, we play a key role in implementation.
04
Stabilize and Further Develop
Governance, KPIs, testing and release processes, as well as scaling to additional product families, plants or markets.
Result: The achievements are operationally sustainable and can be developed further in a controlled manner.
TOOLS & AI
They Accelerate the Process—But Do Not Replace a Robust Model.
AI-supported analyses and software benchmarks can support evaluation and implementation. What remains decisive is whether they lead to robust product models, data structures, responsibilities, tests and system roles that can be transferred into later operations.
Three Forms of Collaboration
CHANGE INITIATIVES
Project and Implementation Consulting
For clearly defined transformation initiatives: modularization programs, CPQ implementation, pricing redesign or architecture transformation.
We take responsibility from analysis and target architecture through pilot, implementation and stabilization.
TECHNICAL WORK PACKAGE
Expert Support
For complex technical tasks and clearly defined work packages: review of a VC/AVC configuration architecture, CPQ pricing model, product or configuration data model, variant optimization, requirements specification, pilot or test concept.
This also includes a Tool & Architecture Review: Which tools are merely project accelerators, which should be operated permanently, and what model dependencies result from them?
INDEPENDENT SECOND OPINION
C-Level Sparring, Review & Validation
For executive management, CTOs, CIOs, division heads and program managers: an independent second opinion and structured validation of strategic product, architecture, software and program decisions.
As a one-time review, to validate key milestones or as ongoing confidential sparring.
What We Do Not Offer
- No generic management consulting unrelated to product, process, data and IT.
- No long-term substitute for internal line management roles.
- No tool or vendor consulting with a sales agenda. Independence is a prerequisite.
- No software implementation without first clarifying product, process, data and operational logic. A suitable user interface is no substitute for a robust product model.
Let’s Discuss the Best Way to Work Together.
In an initial consultation lasting 30 to 45 minutes, we clarify the task at hand, scope, key risks and the most effective form of collaboration.
